Rob Curedale was born in Australia and worked as a designer, director and educator in leading design offices in London, Sydney, Switzerland, Portugal, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, Detroit, and China. He designed and managed over 1,000 products and experiences as a consultant and in-house design leader for the world’s most respected brands. Rob has three decades experience in every aspect of product development, leading design teams to achieve transformational improvements in operating and financial results. Rob’s designs can be found in millions of homes and workplaces around the world. He is the author of eight books on design, research and design thinking. Rob teaches as an Adjunct Professor at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and consults to organizations in the United States and internationally and presents workshops related to design. The first 5 or so chapters are great but after that comes the confusion

This text jumps around and repeats previously covered subject matter so much that I don't know if I'm coming or going! The first 5 or so chapters are great but after that comes the confusion. Plus, add in all the very unclear SPSS instructions and enter chaos. Didn't care for it at all.

Good book, lacking in back-of-book solutions

Decent book. My only complaint is that the answers in the back are only for odd # questions. There were times I really needed to understand an even numbered exercise, and the solution process was nowhere to be found.

About the Author

Dale Green

Dale Green is a young software developer who started his professional programming career in VB.NET, writing bespoke solutions to automate business tasks. This included the writing and maintenance of an e-commerce site that sold products on big online marketplaces such as Amazon and Rakuten. Prior to this, he's been creating computer games since his early high school days. Through self-teaching, Dale has worked with a number of game development tools such as GameMaker, Unity, and Unreal before finding home in C++/DirectX/OpenGL after undertaking a degree in the subject. Currently studying computer games programming BSc (Hons) at the University of Huddersfield, he is on track to graduate with a first-class degree. Alongside his studies, he is a teaching assistant who helps deliver course content to fellow undergraduates. He undertook a year of self-employment to publish his first commercial title on Steam, Samphi, through his indie studio, Greeny Games Studio. As a hobby, Dale also operates the indie game news website named Indie Gamers UK and enjoys playing with new technologies and languages.

If you're interested in procedural generation there are better resources over the internet for free. Pass on this one.

I'm very disappointed by this book. It's lazy in terms of writing and presentation. Seems like a demo version or first draft rather than complete book. It clearly shows lack of experience of the author in the subject of procedural generation.

There is no take on different approaches / algorithms. 80 % of the book is generating random number and hard-coding what it's supposed to do. Create classes for 5 different potions, and if you roll 1 then you spawn potion number 1. Here is the book. I don't think anybody who is proficient enough in C++ to understand the book needs tutorial on that.

Parts of the book are repeated few times such as pros and cons of procedural generation. It's explained there 3 times each time taking few pages repeating the same stuff. Come on.

The code is messy, chaotically explained. I was impressed by how complex explanation of the simple ideas was at times. There are parts of the book not even related to the subject - or hardly related such as how awesome component based architecture is in Unity or Pathfinding section with most basic implementation of A* explained.

All illustrations in the book are black and white - and author uses color to illustrate the changes. As a result you end up staring at two or three identical images like a moron.

If you're interested in procedural generation just look at the internet and you'll find way more comprehensive resources on the subject, for free.

Contains Ephrata in the 1830's, Part II. Beginning in April 11, 1884 and continuing until February 6, 1885 the Ephrata Review printed a series of communications from George R Barr. Much of what was printed in local newspapers such as the Review during this period was obtained as letters or communications from readers or private individuals. George Barr, then living in Philadelphia, had been an Ephrata resident. His letters consisted of his reminiscences of Ephrata as it had been 50 years earlier (1830's). The first section deals with churches and religious organizations. The second section describes schooling in the 1830's. This publication also contains an article by Clarence E Sphon on the Ephrata Paper Mill, and the Hauck-Fry (Frey) Cemetery by Clarence E. Spohn.

The plays were much better than I had anticipated and I thoroughly enjoyed A Doll's House in particular. I have not read all 4, but can say that Ghosts and Hedda Gabler were good too.

Four classic plays from Ibsen

Actually, I've only read two of these plays before but I did
want to list the names of the four included in this volume:
A Doll's House;
Ghosts;
Hedda Gabler;
The Master Builder.

Masterful social drama (to sound like a back-of-the-book blurb).
Seriously though, Ibsen's plays are wonderful.

Four Ibsen plays constituting a marvelous case study

Henrik Ibsen's creation of "modern theater" makes him one of the most influential playwrights, along with William Shakespeare and Samuel Beckett, in the history of drama. This unique collection of the four plays he wrote between 1879 and 1884 provides teachers of drama/literature with an opportunity to look at a major writer trying to develop his craft. Ibsen is concerned with social criticism and each of these plays reflects his change in perspective as he tries to write a drama that will be both socially relevant and commercially successful. You have to remember the time and place that considered it shocking for Nora to leave her husband or for Mrs. Alving to consider euthenasia for her son. By turning to "comedy" (of a sort) in "An Enemy of the People," Ibsen found a way of making his point in a manner more acceptable to his audiences. By looking at not only the plays but how each was received by the public, teachers/students can better appreciate what Ibsen was trying to do with each successive play.
For all four of these plays the notion of responsibility is primary. In "A Doll's House" Nora Helmer decides to leave her husband because he is unworthy of her love. In "Ghosts," Mrs. Alving has to decide whether she should give her diseased son poison as a mercy killing. In "An Enemy of the People," Dr. Stockmann decides to stay and fight to have the infected baths repaired even after the town ostracizes him. Finally, in "The Wild Duck" the idealist Gregers Werle comes home and destroys a family by insisting the truth be told. A classroom set of this particular volume is relatively inexpensive and provides an excellent case study of the growth of a major writer. Students do not often get the opportunity to read several works by the same writer. Shakespeare is the exception to this rule, but usually students are exposed to different types of plays (comedy, tragedy, history) rather than to a series of consecutively written plays.

Excellent Book

I bought this book for background in Microwave before being assigned as PM of a Microwave project. It's a good book and gives great information, but does not detail site and path surveys, which is what I needed most. Definitely worth the money spent.

Excellent Microwave Engineering Book

This book provides an excellent overview of microwave engineering within the industry. It is well written and laid out in an introduction to deployment fashion. Excellent discussion on link budget development and a thorough view of availability versus reliability within the microwave path. I like how the author introduces you to the basic fundamentals of microwave networks and then moves into planning, design, and deployment. If you design or work with microwave radios, this book should be on your shelf as a right hand tool. The book has been an excellent reference to me for developing software and microwave link budgets. Great job!
