Can do better!

This is a poorly written book and it only captures and short span Brian Lara's exploits on the field. It's tone is more of a narrative/commentary of events by Brian himself. My guess is that the author wanted to cash in on the successes of Brian up to that point and this was the end product. The unauthorized autobiography is light years better than this and it's well written, very well researched and covers Brian Lara's life from a child up past his retirement from international cricket.

A gift for Dad

The reason I only gave this product 4 stars, is because it wasn't for me. I bought this as a gift for my Dad. It wasn't easy to find, but thanks to the vendor. I was able to get this copy (used, but in excellent condition). My Dad claims it's the definitive biography of Brian Lara. Sadly, we can't find this book locally and we are from Trinidad! What is it they say 'A man is never appreciated in his own home'.

My favorite textbook

This is my favorite microelectronics textbook. (Out of the 5 or six that I've read.) It is very simple and straightforward material. When I need a microelectronics reference, this is the first book I look at.
The one improvement I would like to see is a better chapter written about SPICE modeling.

Best CMOS

It's really an excellent book, analysis and design of CMOS digital ICs are covered into detail, and theoritical considerations are complete ... mathematical description is detailed and analysis is done into details too. Excellent graphics and layout(but no colors). Th only thing is that th price is really too high .... maybe it is worth that it was a color graphic book at this point, looking at this exaggerating price....
Last thing the book is 655 pages and not 1002 pg.
Although it's an excellent textbook for anyone interested in th field of Digital CMOS design

Carsen Taite is an avid reader and writer of lesbian fiction. Carsen works by day (and sometimes night) as a criminal defense attorney in Dallas, Texas. Though her day job is often stranger than fiction, she can’t seem to get enough and spends much of her free time devouring novels, lesbian fiction in particular.

Carsen is an active member of the GLBT community, participating in several organizations on both the local and state levels. Carsen is married (Canadian-style) and she and her spouse live near White Rock Lake in Dallas where they enjoy cycling and walking the trails with their fuzzy beasts.

Beyond Boring

Technically, nothing is wrong with the writing here. Taite writes well and creates a convincing setting when it comes to lawyers and their professional jargon. My problem with this book is that we mostly drown in what the author knows best (professional setting) and don't get enough plot and romance. This story seemed to move along in real-time and when I got to page 100 in this 231 page book, I realized nothing really happened. The leads barely meet and very little on this central case happens. I didn't really care about any of these characters. I found myself skimming most of this book.

What we get here is one pretty brown-haired and green-eyed Texan prosecutor (Cory Lance) who is suspended for dishonest stuff and she ends up volunteering for the other side to help clean up her rep and keep her job. In doing so, she is assigned to Eric Washington's case... an African-American on death row who claims he is innocent. When his estranged sister from Florida shows up to support him any way she can, she ends up working closely with Cory. However, Cory does have a long-term lover.

Serena Washington is an attractive mocha-skinned African-American who was separated from her brother Eric when she's a young girl. Her father is gone and her mother was a junkie and they both end up in foster homes. Serena is quickly adopted by a nice (white?) family and grows up right. Eric isn't and has a troubled life. Despite a little bit of background we get on these siblings, the story really isn't about their relationship. I couldn't really figure out what the author wanted me to care about for the first chunk of the book. Also, Serena's feelings about women and relationships is murky.

When the romance finally shows up, it's a bland one and not given much focus. Nothing sexy to save it either. The one bedroom scene is a fleeting, non-graphic blurb, and by the time it arrived, I really just wanted the book to end already. Honestly, the picture of Carsen Taite on the back of the book with tape over her mouth was the sexiest imagery I got from this book and I found myself turning the book over all through my read and smirking... love a hot nerd in bondage, lol. As for the characters within, I wasn't really feeling any chemistry here, and I didn't get how Serena could stick around so long. I mean, I don't understand how Serena was helping out with this case. She is praised for it, but I didn't get it.

I am not really into books where the romance isn't clearly at the forefront, despite a whole other plot. I might feel differently if the plots were actually interesting and original in lesfic, but mostly they aren't. I come here to escape in a sexy romance, and I kinda feel sorry for writers who think any other part of the story can possibly be more interesting. This is the second book I've read by this author, and I kinda felt that way about the first as well, but it wasn't as dull (just half as dull). If you like a book that is focused outside of the romance and sounds realistic but mostly goes nowhere, then you may like this one more than I did. But I saw it all as pretty boring.

And I gotta say... there musta been a diversity meeting at Bold Strokes Books because after years of seldom seeing minority leads, this is suddenly the third BSB author among my random picks whose book was released last fall and has an ethnic lead. Amazing. Or just coincidence? lol. Either way, I applaud the effort... but can't resist pointing out that this lead is Black whose mom is a junkie and her brother's in prison... Melissa Brayden's lead is a Mexican "cleaning lady," and Rachel Spangler couldn't even think up a stereotype and simply regurgitated the adolescent trip she took abroad with her high school Spanish class. C'mon people... where's the originality in characterization???!!???

An interesting and inspiring read!

Great an motivational book that lived up to my expectations! I recommend it to anyone who is intrigued by its description and title. The author shares her own stories and perspectives of the hiring process which she's got from working at several top tech companies. The book also provides plenty of concrete tips and pointers to consider for each step of the recruitement process.

(TIP: I was originally looking for "the Google R�sum�" when I instead found this book. This book is essentially a 2nd edition of "the Google R�sum�". Between the two, I chose this one here and I wasn't dissapointed.)

Not so useful book

The book does not really give a clear picture of what it takes to get into one of the top companies. I worked at one of the companies mentioned by Gayle and I must say that the interview process has changed a lot in the last few years.
I would expect Gayle to get into touch with interviewers at the big companies and get first hand details from them. Most of the answers to the questions by readers are superficial. I would like people to read online blogs on getting your dream job and prepare using the questions posted at careercup.com :)
Otherwise this book would give you false hopes.

Highly Recommend - Attacks every aspect of Volunteering!

EHHH is an amazing book for those of us that feel a different calling. Volunteering is something that comes from within. Barry does a very thorough job of breaking down the why in volunteering along with all the curiousity floating in your mind, such as: How to organize, how to manage, how to motivate, and supporting your volunteer teams (among many subjects).

Highly recommend to anyone getting into the action of volunteering, whether as a leader or a disciple to the process itself.
Must read for anyone in the worship arena or just in the spirit of giving back.

Having had the pleasure of previously working with Mr. Altland, I was excited to see that he had published this book. Don't let the title mislead you as this is not only a book about volunteering, but is applicable to all leaders. As a recently promoted people leader, I found this easy read provides guidance for coaching and tips for keeping yourself and others engaged.

It's almost like a handbook for leaders

This book is a must if you are a leader in an organization that depends on the talents of volunteers. The stereotype of a volunteer is debunked. Barry brings the idea of the volunteer up to a professional level. He explores how a person contributing to an organization has needs to be met, and a leader can guide and cultivate the volunteer for his or her benefit and the benefit of the organization. It can be a win for all parties with focused development and action.

It is also a quick read, structured in practical language. It's almost like a handbook for leaders. Any leader would benefit from this book, profit or non-profit. I enjoyed it and was able to apply its principles immediately to my HRD consultancy world.
