Beth Ellard, EVP Media, The Advertising Council
"Ken Goldstein has tackled important businesses issues in an entertaining format. This deceptively easy to read story has important lessons on leadership, courage and resilience. It is written as a dialog between a manager at the beginning of his career and a CEO nearing the end of hers. The manager exhibits the first quality he will need to move from being an individual contributor to a leader by self-awareness of his strengths and weaknesses. The qualities needed to be a good leader, including flexibility, enterprise-wide thinking and engaging and motivating strong team members, are explored in the dialog between the two individuals and written in a manner that makes you think back to the topics again and again. Goldstein calls upon his own experience as a CEO to add authenticity to the topics."
Becky Stein, Senior Client Partner, Korn Ferry
"Full of hard-won business lessons, presented in a delightful and accessible style, Ken Goldstein's latest is both fun to read and full of valuable insights. The deeper truths about blending creative ideals and practical production realities resonated with my own experiences, clearly the result of a lot of trial by combat on Goldstein's part."
Noah Falstein, Chief Game Designer, Google
From the Inside Flap
"Dating back to Socrates, the arts have provided memorable examples of teachers we all wish we encountered at some point along the journey of life, who make us question our thinking and seek answers that might be right in front of us. Ken Goldstein has modestly created a fictional persona in Daphne and her charming, selfless encounter with Paul--a brief but powerful lesson that will last a lifetime.Endless Encoresinvites the reader to be a fly on the wall for their dialogue and chart a course for their own professional journey with the simple but powerful formula shared."

Sage Advice from a Master Manager.
By Philip Hopbell
Ken Goldstein in “Endless Encores: Repeating Success Through People, Products, and Profits” lays out the plan for continuous success. Goldstein knows what he is talking about; he’s been a successful executive for multiple Fortune 500 companies and startups at Executive and C-level positions. It’s a great book for managers at all levels whether in the executive office or a floor manager with only a few direct reports. It’s a philosophy everyone can grasp.
The concept of discovering, recruiting, hiring and growing top talent that will deliver great product is a message that needs to he heard. It seems obvious but in my discussions with other executives in the Tech industry I most often hear “lead with great product the good people will follow.” To me, and to Goldstein, this defies logic.
The book takes the form of the classic Dialogue form between a more experienced older senior executive and a younger less seasoned development manager who realizes that the success of his previous work will not carry over his current project. The two meet in an airport lounge whilst awaiting a delayed departure. Each chapter moves through the primary lessons around the meaning of People, Products, Profits and why they must be followed in that order. The short book is well written and simple to grasp at any level. It can be used in organizational meetings and HR retreats to create a platform for discussion.
The part that resonates with me is People. How we discover talented and driven individuals, recruit, hire and then mentor them is one of the most difficult tasks a manager has in her job.
This is Ken Goldstein’s second book published by Story Plant. His first book is the thriller, “This is Rage,” which was very well received. Both books reflect the same business philosophy and I highly recommend both books.
Highly recommended!

Great Business Message Wrapped in a Simple, but Powerful Story...Reminds me of Traveler's Gift
By Charles Franklin
"Endless Encores" reminds me of one of the most life-changing books I have ever read, "The Traveler's Gift: Seven Decisions That Determine Personal Success". Like "The Traveler's Gift", "Endless Encores" is a short, but powerfully-messaged book about a journey of an individual from failure to mastery through the guidance of a mentor. "The Traveler's Gift" focused on life overall, while "Endless Encores" focused on the business sphere. Specifically, how do you create a good product after you received so much success for the first
In the book, a newly promoted executive meets a billionaire in an airport and learns lessons that transforms his business. Like the lead character in "The Traveler's Gift" is an unwilling (at first) student is guided and nudged toward a journey in which he has to make choices. Goldstein does an excellent job (showing off his fiction writing skills) of describing that journey in simple turns that have elegant nuggets of wisdom. (I even wrote some of the information and I don't own a company.) He mentions in the intro that he is a fiction author, and I wholeheartedly agree. It's the kind of book that you read for business lessons and actually enjoy as leisure reading too and not realize how caught up in it you actually are.
The book differs from "The Traveler's Gift" in a few significant ways. The lessons are not as direct. In "The Traveler's Gift", there is more of emphasis on following a code. In "Endless Encores", the focus is less about passing along a specific set of beliefs, and more about passing along a mindset. The lead character, Paul, remains the role of a student until the last part of a book where he starts to display some of the inherent power that his mentor (Daphne) sees in him. As a result, you don't get a handy little list of quotes like in "The Traveler's Gift", instead you get a lecture with a very wise businesswoman who is able to break down business into the simplest and most effective terms.
I enjoyed reading it and gained a better insight into how I should approach business (and life) in general. Goldstein does an excellent job of using a story to serve as the vehicle of knowledge.

Artificial
By David Wineberg
This little 90 page book is a rather stilted and forced conversation between a successful female Silicon Valley CEO with a lifelong track record, and a hot videogame marketer, whose product, and therefore his self confidence, have stalled. The CEO doesn’t want his glib answers and he can’t see the forest for the trees. A match made in business advice heaven. It has aspirations to be a one-minute-manager, with page after page of sage advice on life in the corporate world (People. Products. Profit – in that order). There is no plot. There are no case studies or references, aside from name dropping. This one act play takes place at an airport bar where they both await a delayed flight. He somehow has never heard of this giant of a CEO. She unaccountably decides to mentor him on the spot with 40 years worth of business experience. I think Walt Disney directed. If only it were David Mamet.
It is chock-full of management-speak catchphrases:
-Think Different is not a slogan.
- Leapfrog products invent and reinvent markets.
-Eat your own dogfood.
-Don’t confuse good enough with good.
-Quality assurance is a process, not a department.
And these all appear on one page. And there are several more like it.
There is seemingly endless shelf space for books of this genre. Despite their MBAs, It seems that everyone has to learn all these things from scratch after they’ve stumbled. I found nothing at all new in Ken Goldstein’s book. On the other hand, it is a useful collection of non controversial guidelines. It’s good medicine, but it’s old.
David Wineberg
